(Yesterday i joined the city hall zoom call and left public comments.)
My name is Jeramy Dalpe, Some of you may better know me as the guy in front of city hall with the fliers. I have spent time at The Bay Cove Warming Center in recent years, giving me first-hand experience with many of its issues.
My specific concerns include a lack of proper staff training in de-escalation techniques, staff sleeping on the job, retaliation from staff when grievances are reported, being singled out and targeted by other guests, staff covering up for each other, bullying and physical threats from other guests, unsanitary conditions such as zero bathroom tissue, unwashed floors and blankets mats, no soap, and the theft of my $1,100 laptop and expensive storage devices while I slept(Totaling ~$2,000). After the theft, I was told, "Well, you shouldn’t have brought it here in the first place," and the staff continued to joke and laugh at me for a month.
Homeless individuals deserve safe and healthy living conditions, dignity, and respect. There must be accountability for everything the staff allowed to happen. For me, the lack of housing placement by Bay Cove is a top concern, and having them replace the stolen items is paramount. It was all I had left.
I hope the City seriously addresses these concerns before they worsen and affect future guests.
